HISTORY

A survivor of the August 2011 Mineral earthquake, this corner brick building is reported to be the oldest commercial building in the Historic Downtown area and occupies part of Lot #35 on the 1759 plat of the Town of Culpeper, as surveyed by 16 year old George Washington for Lord Fairfax. The building is listed on The Virginia Register of Historic Places.

The original building area has handmade brick, hand hewn and pegged timbers, and wide pine floors. The rear portion is Circa 1790 while the front portion is Circa 1835. The first level on the corner of East Street and E. Davis Street has been used as a stable, tobacco warehouse, restaurant, plus numerous other businesses. The lower level was used as a Civil War jail for both the North and South Armies and now houses our Pub.

This building is now a showpiece of world class cuisine produced by chef Peter Stogbuchner and his wife Karen.

INVESTIGATION CONCLUSION

On the night of our investigation, the air was charged due to a very heavy thunderstorm.  We spent a good
6 hours in the Inn that night. We used one team since it was just 5 investigators, with one person watching the DVR.
The Team started the investigation in the Armory/Attic.  After about 2 hours I had to go up and check on them since they were in the same spot for all that time.  They were not ready to leave because they had experienced voices, many K2 hits, touching, flashlight activity and footsteps.

The Team then had to break for a bit while waiting for the Pub to close for the night.  Once the music was done
and the Patrons were cleared out, the 2nd leg of the investigation began. We had many of the staff join us for a
spirit box session that was very active.  The K2 and flashlight were also very active.  At times you could here
footsteps in the dining area above us.

As we were tearing down the DVR cameras following the investigation, I experienced my first true apparition
in the lobby area of the restaurant.  We had been told one of the claims was seeing a figure go in and out of the
closet area.  I just happened to be walking down the small set of steps with a camera in hand and I heard the water running full blast in the men's bathroom which made me look towards it.  At that time a full figure walked through
the closed door and turned and walked straight back towards the women's bathroom and disappeared.  I just thought
that it was one of the team, but as I walked back into command center, they were all accounted for.  We immediately went back to the bathrooms and the water was still running full blast.  The staff was all accounted for downsatirs, so it ended up being a great personal experience.

As a team we all agree that there is a great amount of paranormal activity that is occuring within the Inn.  The staff
has had many experiences that have occured over the years and they are proud of their ghosts and don't want to
loose them.  It is also a wonderful place to experience a great dinner and excellent service.  We consider them to
be a part of the "Twisted Family".
